Chapter Nine

Rhys stared at Emersyn, searching her eyes for any hint that her motivations were wrought from guilt. Being the only one among them not to climax, he suspected she might feel obligated to give him some form of release. Not that he expected it. Watching her surrender to the other men, writhing in ecstasy as they brought her to climax over and over, had satisfied him in a way he’d never anticipated. Where he thought he’d feel cheated or jealous, he only felt pleasure that she’d experienced sensations that had left her sagging in his arms, her skin laced with sweat, her breath a raspy wheeze as she fought to slow it down. But as his gaze locked on hers, all he saw was burning need. A need he’d initiated.

Emotions tumbled through his chest, and he knew he’d never be the same man. That once he’d loved her, pieces of him would be rearranged in a way only Emersyn could ever put together. The thought should have scared him. The very notion that she held so much power over him was reason enough to remain a bit distant. But as her eyes pleaded with him, he was helpless against his own need. Against the fire welling inside him that demanded he claim her in the very way she wanted. That only her complete surrender would soothe the alpha part of him he’d had to shove aside in order to share her with Kace and Hunter, much like he suspected the other men had done.

Rhys smoothed his fingertips along her face, realizing he’d lose every battle with her if she looked at him the way she was right now. That he’d never be able to deny her anything as long as he could see her love for him reflected in her eyes.

He leaned in, drinking in the scent of warm woman and sex. “Are you sure? I don’t want to hurt you. And since you’ve never—”

Again she silenced him. “You said before that you’d give me what I need.” She gave him a stunning smile. “This is me trusting you to do just that.”

The honesty in her voice humbled him, and he simply nodded, aware his voice would crack if he tried to speak. He was too close to the edge, too invested in the outcome to keep his emotions in check. Instead, he kissed her, putting everything he felt into that one melding of lips.

She responded in kind, turning back around when he pulled away and nodded toward Hunter. The man welcomed her into his arms as she bent over him, one of her hands reaching out to hold Kace’s.

Rhys’ chest constricted tighter. God, she was amazing. The way she included all of them without seemingly giving it a second thought, ensuring none of them felt isolated. He glanced at Kace. His brother’s expression said it all, and Rhys suspected the man would spend the next day coming to terms with the fact he’d fallen head over heels for their little minx.
